Will the Egyptian parliament surprise Egyptians with new isolation?

The Cairo Court of Justice is considering a lawsuit filed by the official Middle East News Agency (MENA) that a number of citizens have set up to oblige the Speaker of the House of Representatives to lift the restriction on the number of presidential terms.

Prosecutors say Article 140 of the constitution is unfair to the Egyptian people and that eight years does not give the president time to overcome the economic and security challenges facing the country.

Since the re-election of Sisi in March, there have been speculation about attempts to amend the constitution to allow him to re-run in 2022.

The current constitution was passed in 2014 after the army overthrew former President Mohamed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood in the wake of mass protests against his rule in 2013

He expected the amendments to take months, and then President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi calls on voters for a referendum.
